4 of Spades

The 4 of Spades speaks to us regarding small worries, problems, financial difficulty and personal lows.

Our perception of the Divine and our world view is called in to question with this card.  Are you a person who believes in a divine being that is there to solve all our problems and act as an agent of reassurance that "things will get better?"  Is your concept of the divine one that sends problems and difficulty your way as a source of punishment or correction?  Is your god a power that simply lets things unfold and the "chips fall where they will?"  Is life only about fun and "getting ahead?" Do your goals in life include becoming financially secure and earning enough so that you don't have to worry anymore about your future or the future of your children?

The 4 of Spades calls each one of us to evaluate how it is we reach our ideologies around the Divine and the purpose of our lives here on Earth.  Understanding how it is that you have come to such perspectives will grant you significant insight on how it is you decide to act in many, many situations.

 Blessings.

Non-Permanence & Attachment

Yesterday the Universe gave me a gift.  But first, let me take you back several years when my youngest daughter, Sophie, was three years old - soon to be four. It was Christmas and I was with my little girl shopping for her mother - my wife, Shari.  As I recall, I wanted to let Sophie decide what she would give her mom.  I asked Sophie what she wanted to give as a gift and she replied, "The sun."  So we went looking for the sun.  We found it at Michael's - the arts and craft store.  It took the form of a large red glass ornament that was maybe five inches in diameter with some sparkly silver designs.  It was perfect. Every year since, we put "the sun" on the tree and laugh and talk about getting mommy "the sun" for Christmas.  It is one of those moments that occurs each year as is part of the process.  Though we chuckle and retell the story it is a moment that I also take for granted.  I mean, I'll hear the story again the next y...

Expectations

I recently attended an event at a location with a sub-cultural group of people.  This is not surprising in and of itself as I have been known to do such things before.  As a former student of sociology I seem to be innately drawn to sub-groups within the larger culture and in so doing I gather information.  It’s not an exercise with a deliberate academic intent but one I do out of a personal desire to grow and expand.  So, like I say, recently I was at one of these events and what is a bit surprising is that I had, several weeks ago, told my spouse that I was done with that group.  Essentially what I had desired to achieve by attending these functions had not manifested in any meaningful way.  However, my last visit was very rewarding.  Why was this?  I attended three weeks in a row previously, eager to learn and experience and be challenged and this did not happen.  Yesterday I attended more out of boredom and a lack of something to do and ...

An Introduction

Well, here I am.  My first blog.  I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time and today I finally “jumped in.”  No expectations.  Just space to grow and expand.  But first, some house keeping... The  title of this Blog is The Box Stall Medium.   First, what is a box stall?  Quite literally, it is a stall in the shape of a box.  It is a stall (usually for a farm animal say, a horse) that is not big enough for two animals but large enough for one that it may move around freely.  You see them at horse stables.  I happen to work at a horse stable and so that, in part, explains where that idea for this blog originated.  Second, who is the medium?  Is it me or the box stall?  Actually, it is me.  I am the Box Stall Medium.  But, let me clarify something.  I do not, in any way claim to be a medium as people generally think of mediums.  I don’t “knowingly” receive messages from the dead...
