3 of Diamonds

The 3 of Diamonds.  This is a card that addresses legality and also asks us to consider those around us and how we treat others.  When we consider the Divine what images come to mind?  Are the images of an old man in the clouds?  A great bird soaring through the sky?  Perhaps the wind is the picture that is created for you as you contemplate the Source.  A great wind that can not be seen yet is obviously present and powerful; its effects evident in the motion of the trees and perhaps even the destruction that it can cause.  What ever image you hold for the Source of All, this card comes to us as a reminder that the practice we subscribe to in order that we may worship or connect with the Divine can very easily become a type of religion - a legal practice for each one of us.  The Source is much more than a set of legalistic rituals.

As humans, we love consistency because it brings with it a sense of security and control.  We live in a world that constantly demands that we be in control and know what is going to happen next so we can be prepared and ready to respond.  If we're always ready then we are never in need are we?  But, this is not the way of the Divine.  The Divine asks us to change and to grow and to have faith in the Divine process - the Way of the Universe.  The Way of the Universe is connectivity and dependency upon one another.  Consider the natural world around us.  Do not the flowers and trees depend upon the wind to carry the seed to new soil?   Does not the seed depend on the soil, the rain and the sun to germinate?  Does not the soil depend upon the lowly worm to change the composition of the nutrients in order for it to be more productive and nourish the seed?  Likewise, we are dependent on each other to move beyond stagnancy and death to grow and expand.

The connection we have with other beings is the second part of the message from the 3 of Diamonds. This card asks us to consider how we treat others.  We need to use tact with those around us so as to avoid too much confrontation and too much conflict.  Confrontation and conflict can be a way for people to reflect on those ideas that are important to them and see that others have ideas that are equally important to them.  Confrontation and conflict create a potential space for change and growth. And change and growth are Divine abilities.  When we come up against ideas that force us to reflect and evaluate our own ways of living and being then we are put into a creative space for expansion as humans and soul beings.  This creative ability is a Divine expression.  However, we don't always need to be in a space of confrontation and conflict to experience this creative ability.  Our creative gift can be expressed through many, many avenues and sometimes these avenues and manifestations of creativity are vastly different from person to person.  And, of course, how we worship the Divine and interact with this Source of All is a personal choice that often reflects our own creative individuality.  Treating others in a way that honors this creative difference in each of us is also known as the Golden Rule present in many religions throughout the world.  The 3 of Diamonds calls us to remember the importance and significance of this Universal Rule.
